Member since 1975

By Anna Wallin, ISSN Sweden Director, 2014– and Ola Alm ISSN Sweden team member, 1998–

ISSN Sweden was set up in 1975 at the Bibliographic Institute of the National Library of Sweden, after many years of hard work getting ready for it. The statutes were formally adopted in 1979, which was also when the Swedish union catalogue Libris was launched.

Establishing the Centre

The Centre has had five directors (including the current one). Our first director, Ms Gunilla Eldebro, was in the job for 18 years (1979-1997). Other former directors include: Agneta Holmenmark 1998-2007, Jamshid Farahani 2007-2009 and Katarina Synnermark 2010-2014.

31st ISSN Directors meeting in Stockholm, 2006

We have added more than 30,000 records to the ISSN portal over the years. The big challenge now is how to make ISSN work in the "Bibframish" environment.

In 2006, we proudly hosted the ISSN network in Stockholm and the 31st ISSN Directors Meeting.

For the 40th anniversary in 2015, the ISSN Sweden team went on a pilgrimage to Paris, France and the headquarters of the International Centre at Rue de Turbigo. We were also warmly welcomed to the Bibliothèque nationale de France, by the French ISSN team, for a special day in their company.
