ISSN Norway

Member since 1979

The National Library of Norway joined the ISSN Network in December 1979. Initially ISSN Norway was based in Oslo but was relocated in the summer of 2016 to Mo i Rana, near the Arctic Circle, almost 1000 km north of its original location.

Kari Grethe Singsaas served as the first director of ISSN Norway until 1999. During her tenure, she oversaw the 14th meeting that was held in Oslo in 1988. Zofia Johansen led ISSN Norway from 2000 until the summer of 2016, when Hanna Elise Hansen assumed the role. Since 2020, ISSN Norway has been led by Vilde Mei Arnestad.

Throughout these 50 years ISSN Norway, with the National Library of Norway, has undergone significant changes in cataloguing rules and systems. From handwritten assignments, and assignments sent manually by mail or fax to the ISSN IC, to fully electronic processing and exports. From a locally developed database to Alma from Ex Libris. From 1992, all ISSN registrations and cataloguing to the National bibliography have been done in one single operation.

We are immensely proud of the work and collaboration achieved over these 50 years and eagerly look forward to another 50 years of progress and development. Happy 50th anniversary to everyone!
