ISSN Nigeria
Member since 1976
We at the Nigeria ISSN Centre are excited to celebrate this significant milestone with the ISSN Centre and the entire ISSN community. Over the years we have witnessed and seen the International Centre evolve and adopt to the ever changing publishing landscape, and we are proud to have played a part in that growth and development.
From our humble beginning in 1976 under the leadership of the late Prince Aje, our former National Librarian we have come a long way. In the early days we had to rely on handwritten entries in registers, metadata sheets, emails and excel spreadsheets to administer ISSN. It was a laborious, monotonous and often duplicating process, but we stayed committed. We later embraced new technologies like the VCC and the ISSN plus to streamline our work and serve our clients better.
One of the milestones we are particularly proud of was in 2014 when we were able to clear a significant backlog of errors and entries that had accumulated over the years. This was a testament to our dedication and perseverance. Our handwork didn’t go unnoticed, and we were honored with an award from International Centre in recognition of our efforts.
In 2017, our centre became a division in its own right and we welcomed our first director Ms. Amaka Ojielo. This marked a new era of growth and experience for us.
Since then, we have continued to thrive, offering vital services to publishers in Nigeria and our local community and raising awareness about the importance of ISSN and barcodes through advocacy and sensitization programs.
We remain grateful for the many years of partnership and support from the International Centre and look forward to another fifty (50) years of collaboration and growth.
