ISSN Colombia

Member since 1976

Since 1976, Colombia has had an ISSN National Centre dedicated to the identification and registration of its serial publications. Throughout its history, two institutions have been in charge of this important work: - ICFES (1976 - 2011): For 35 years, the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education was responsible for assigning the ISSN code to Colombian serial publications, laying the foundations for their organisation and dissemination.

- National Library of Colombia (2012-present): The Ministry of National Education, through Decree 4141 of 3 November 2011, transferred this responsibility to the Ministry of Culture, specifically to the National Library of Colombia, which officially took over the management of the ISSN on 2 January 2012.

The National Library has not only inherited an essential function, but has also consolidated itself as the authority responsible for the management and regulation of the ISSN at the national level in Colombia, allowing researchers, publishers and users in general to have efficient access to the information contained in these publications.

It is important to note that this service is completely free and can be requested through the website of the National Library of Colombia (Request ISSN), with a response time of no more than three (3) working days.
